Most Anticipated 2019 Releases

Top Five Wednesday Goodreads Group: Goodreads Group Link

With so many popular series concluding in 2018, 2019 promises to be an exciting year for discovering new favorites.

Here’s a list of my most anticipated releases for 2019:

5. The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

So many people have already been raving about this book! The Gilded Wolves follows a ragtag team on a quest for ancient artifacts in 1889 Paris. It’s described as perfect for fans of Six of Crows, and since I’m in that category, I couldn’t be more excited.

The book releases on January 15.

4. Crescent City by Sarah J. Maas

As you may know—or might not—I’m a huge fan of Sarah J. Maas. Every book she writes gives me not just one ship, but an entire shipyard and an open ocean.

Crescent City follows a half-human, half-Sidhe girl in a world on the brink of war. It features demons, angels, and shifters, all set in a more modern world than Maas’s previous works. With Throne of Glass coming to an end this year, I am so ready to jump into another epic Maas series.

As of now, there’s no official release date or cover reveal.

3. Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan

Wicked Saints is a gothic fantasy that follows three fascinating characters: a girl who can speak to gods, a prince in peril, and a boy with a monstrous secret. Together, they must assassinate the king and stop a devastating war. Need I say more? This sounds absolutely amazing!

The book combines everything I love in fantasy and makes it dark and gritty. With its emphasis on theology, my intrigue is only heightened. Wars rooted in religion often feel more complex and compelling than a story centered on a purely malicious king waging war for power. I am beyond excited for this book and cannot wait to dive in!

The release date is set for April 2.

2. Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

I know what you’re thinking: Another one? She’s still writing Shadowhunter books? Honestly, even I thought I’d tire of the Shadowhunter world by now.

But nope—not yet. In fact, I feel Cassandra Clare’s writing gets stronger with every new series or trilogy. Her characters are more complex and fully developed, and the stakes keep getting higher. Clare has crafted something truly special with the Shadowhunter world, and I’m too invested to leave now.

Chain of Gold focuses on the Carstairs, Blackthorn, and Herondale families—specifically James Herondale, Grace Blackthorn, and Cordelia Carstairs—in Edwardian London. Expect forbidden love, tragedy, and all the drama we’ve come to expect. I’m ready to dive into another adventure with this next group of Shadowhunters!

The book releases on November 19.

1. The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

Anyone who knows me—maybe even those who don’t—knows how much I adore The Night Circus. I raved about it in my last post, so I’ll try to rein it in this time. It’s been seven long years since The Night Circus was released, and Erin Morgenstern hasn’t published a book since.

Then, one ordinary day while scrolling through Goodreads—BOOM! There it was: another Erin Morgenstern book! To say I was excited would be a massive understatement.

This book is incredibly hard to describe, but here’s what I can tell you: it involves a masquerade party, a secret society, a subterranean library, and—most importantly—Erin Morgenstern’s mesmerizing, lyrical writing.

The release date is November 5, and honestly, that feels so far away!

Top 5 Wednesday- Books to give a daydreamer as gifts.

This recommendation is for anyone who spends hours lost in their own thoughts, dreaming of the most beautiful and fantastical things. It’s for someone who loves the whimsical, the lighthearted, and the magical.

Strange the Dreamer Duology by Laini Taylor

“You’re a storyteller. Dream up something wild and improbable… Something beautiful and full of monsters.”

This quote perfectly encapsulates why the Strange the Dreamer duology belongs on this list. With blue-skinned gods, a daydreaming librarian, and a mystical lost city, Strange the Dreamer is wonderfully bizarre in the best possible way.

It’s not as action-packed as some other fantasy novels, but Laini Taylor’s flowery prose creates a distinct feeling—almost like floating along through a dream.

You know that scene from Chamber of Secrets when Harry opens Tom Riddle’s diary? He’s sucked in and can relive Tom’s memories without being seen. That’s how I would describe reading Strange the Dreamer. It’s beautiful, with the perfect balance of whimsy and darkness.

2. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Another read that prioritizes atmosphere over action is The Night Circus. The story revolves around a magical, moving circus that appears and disappears without warning. The novel offers perspectives from both circus-goers and performers, who are secretly part of a magical competition unfolding behind the scenes.

“Like stepping into a fairy tale under a curtain of stars.” — Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus

Erin Morgenstern’s writing is absolutely stunning. She has a way of making you feel exactly what the characters feel, taste what they taste, and smell what they smell. Reading this book was an experience. After finishing, I found myself daydreaming about the circus and wishing it were real.

Honestly, if you have a daydreamer on your Christmas shopping list, get them this book. Seriously, go get it now!

3. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This book needs no introduction. If you’ve ever heard the quotes “We accept the love we think we deserve” or “And at that moment, I swear we were infinite,” then you’ve already encountered this book.

There’s also a great movie adaptation starring Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Ezra Miller. And yes, this is the book that inspired my username.

While the book tackles heavier issues like mental health and sexual abuse, the main character, Charlie, spends much of his time lost in his thoughts, analyzing the world—much like many daydreamers do.

Charlie quietly observes the world around him, recalling memories by writing letters to an unknown recipient. In these letters, he analyzes his own actions and those of others, pondering how things could have turned out differently. It’s definitely a book that resonates with many daydreamers.

4. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

We’ve all heard of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White. Many of us have probably seen the Disney adaptations. But Marissa Meyer takes these familiar stories and flips them on their heads. With The Lunar Chronicles, she creates a steampunk dystopian world that feels almost like a fantasy.

Meyer crafts a unique atmosphere while staying true to the essence of fairy tales. There’s action, romance, and humor—making this series perfect for the daydreamer who often asks themselves a lot of what-ifs. Like, what if Cinderella was a cyborg?

5. Uprooted by Naomi Novik

This is a book I’m currently reading, but I’ve read enough to know it’s going to be a new favorite.

Uprooted looks like a fairy tale and reads like one as well. Like many of the other books on this list, it’s more atmospheric than action-packed. Naomi Novik’s writing is immersive and beautiful. It brings me back to the stories I loved as a child, filled with dragons, giants, and fairies. This book is magical, whimsical, and fun—perfect for every daydreamer.

5. The_Cruel_Prince_cover

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26032825-the-cruel-prince.

This book was probably the most raved about book in 2018. For many, this is described as a guilty pleasure read which is exactly what I need to fill the void the Throne of Glass series has left. The best part, book 2, The Wicked King comes out at the beginning of January.

This story has mischievous fae, deception, political intrigue and romance. The more I hear about this book, the more excited I am to read it. Therefore placing it at number 5 on my book wish list.

4.furyborn-claire-legrand.jpg

Claire Legrand definitely left her mark in 2018. It felt like everywhere I turned one of her books would pop up. While Furyborn was less talked about than her other book Sawkill Girls, the moment I read the synopsis I knew I needed to have this book.

Prophesied queens, elemental magic, bounty hunters and a cosmic war! This sounds like the recipe for the perfect book.

3.ItemImage.aspx_

https://www.goodreads.com/series/40910-mistborn

An older series on this list. I have been eyeing this series for two years. Yes, you read that right, two years! I have heard nothing but great things about this series and I am sure the moment I read this, it will make my greatest of all-time list. So what have I been waiting for, you may ask.

I have been preparing myself for the gloriousness that this will bring by reading urban fantasy and easier high fantasy. But I am finally ready for a world where every single detail, from the magic system to the culture, is thought. 2019 is the year of total fantasy immersion and I can’t wait!!

2.9781510106284

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23437156-six-of-crows

Six criminals, one impossible heist, Six of Crows was one of my favorite reads of 2016. It was the perfect balance of humor and action. There were romance elements but they didn’t consume the plot. Inej, Jesper, Nina, Kaz, Wylan and Matthias, all has such distinct personality but each brought something to the table. Six of Crows was just a feel-good, action-packed, gut-wrenching read, that I desperately need to re-read. There is no better way to re-read than with the new collector’s edition with its beautiful red-stained pages and fan art. It’s too pretty not to buy! You can apologize to your bank account later.

And Number one *Drum roll please* The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, book one in the Stormlight Archive.

Okay here is why this book is number one on my book wish list for 2018: the people who have read and review this book claim that this could potentially be the next great epic fantasy read. That’s a bold claim. Fangirls and boys, don’t go grabbing your pitchforks and torches, but it is even being grouped with the likes of Lord of the Rings series and Game of Throne. I want to be a part of this! I want to see what all the hype’s about and since this series is three books deep, there is no better time to start.
